When I was a child I was very offended

that the universe was bigger than I was.

I didn’t ask to be born in a universe
that was so much bigger than I was.
I suppose a little bigger would have been acceptable for geometric reasons,
so I wouldn’t have to be stuffed into it.
But I see no need for so much additional wasted space in the universe
beyond my own skin,
the volume of which could detract from my importance.
